Experience
Working mainly as a free-lancer, I have run workshops since
2008 with a variety of different organisations, schools and for events. Some of
my collaborations have included:
> The TCV (British
nature conservation) - running drop-in craft-based workshops for
children of all ages.
> Animate Exeter (animation
film festival) - teaching basic animation techniques to teenagers.
> Spare Parts Theatre
Company - characterising and crafting puppets in a week-long children's workshop.
> Active Learning
Nursery - exploring light and dark in a photography based workshops for toddlers.
> ARTCART at the
Newcastle Art Gallery - weekly art workshops in response to in-house exhibitions.
> Jubilee Primary
School - 'reward and relief’ classes for small groups of pupils, practising in arts, crafts, cookery and gardening.
Currently I am working at the House for an Art Lover,
assisting in the ARTpark’s weekly children’s art programs.
Background
I also have my own practise, where I use the mediums of
photography, illustration and craft-making. My themes are often based on
environmental topics (take a peek at www.charlottecraig.com). I have just completed
a Masters in Design at Glasgow School of Art, and have previously studied a BA
in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University.
Intention
From working with lots of different children I can see that
many thrive the most when being in a hands-on, creative environment. It is my aim in the workshops that children can express and
explore their creative ideas freely, whilst developing their confidence and
individual style. I also strongly recognise the importance of developing
practical skills. Through learning about different types of techniques and how
to handle materials, this gives individuals the tools to both express creative ideas
and ground their learning.
